The Goldsmithess
Goldsmithess of the garland of twigs
of the kind ever [found on] birch tops,
her skilfulness will be [of] benefit to me (wood's gift)
4 were I to get profit.
To embrace the craft of goldsmithery
she went to a smithy of leaves
and won praise and salutation
8 and with her hand she soldered love.
With her hand, my gentle golden treasure,
she wove birch beautifully;
and my fair goldsmithess who does not anger me
12 (a kindred's gem) proposed
to fashion a garland from the shoots
of a cluster from the top of the wood on the hill:
a small piece of wood that will bind a bosom,
16 a well-known craft between finger and thumb.
A hundred times better than a brooch of fine amber
is the garland of the hair from the head of a radiant birch.
I am garlanded by the tips of the shoots;
20 it is worth [all] the garlands of the South.
Faithfully will she keep long-life for me,
I am well-attired with the garland she gave.
My birch garland (it is well cared-for)
24 from the wood will cause enduring longing;
It's my boon-I will not do without it-
my life all summer long,
my son, my brother of unfailing manners,
28 my bound birch; my love gave it.
[Of] the appearance (apt, wise craft)
of a gem of verdant birch was Morfudd's garland.
My breast is shattered (very exciting agitation)
32 under the birch garland of a knowledgeable girl.
Skilful work on a good birch tree,
she knew how to enhance wood.
Her intention is better than that of Siannyn
36 the Goldsmith; he wants frequent payment.
She arranged fine twigs;
blessed is the weak one who might be
(she enriched me with gold for my profit)
40 on top of his goldsmithess.
